Nerdio Paul F. Guerin, VP of Sales and Business Development: The ubiquitous availability of business grade internet, enterprise class colo facilities, and advancements in virtualization technology coupled with cloud IaaS from Amazon (AWS) and Microsoft (Azure) are changing the way way MSPs deliver services to the customers in a disruptive way. Where are managed services going? The Pitfalls of Cloud-Washed VDI | @CloudExpo #VDI #Cloud #Microservices

The Pitfalls of Cloud-Washed VDI and How It Affects Your Bottom Line What is "Cloud-washing" anyway? Amitabh Sinha, CEO of Workspot: Today, everywhere you turn IT solutions are moving to the cloud. Or at least, that's what IT vendors would like you to believe. In many cases, what's really happening is that IT products are being rebranded and marketed as cloud solutions. In other words, they're being "cloud-washed." As TechTarget describes - "Cloud washing (also spelled cloudwashing) is the purposeful and sometimes deceptive attempt by a vendor to rebrand an old product or service by associating the buzzword "cloud" with it." While many of these solutions do have some cloud integration, their designs don't have the backend infrastructure or dedicated management teams to support a truly cloud-native solution. Instead, vendors are adapting their solutions and modifying... (more)

The Improbability of Resource Planning

Imagine you run an eCommerce web site, and you know that on "Black Friday," that magical day after Thanksgiving when retailers drop prices and rev up sales, you would require substantially more servers to accommodate the anticipated spike in online traffic. If you were operating in a private cloud, you could go to IT and request a dozen more servers for the day, and IT could have them ready to roll on Black Friday. What's more, IT could arrange for the machines to be shut down on Saturday, so it wouldn't cost you a penny more than you need to spend. If you were in a traditional IT shop, you would be out of luck. Back in the day, if you knew you had a big resource push like a Black Friday traffic spike coming, there really wasn't much you could do about it. It's not as though you could ask IT to temporarily buy two dozen servers to accommodate your one-day rush. Toda... (more)

Mind the Gap - Enterprise Mobility and Digital Transformation

The phrase "Mind the Gap" was first introduced in 1969 in London as a warning for passengers to watch for the gap between the train door and the station platform.  The need to warn passengers is and was the result of some stations being located on curves and at varying heights relative to the tracks.  The warning is intended to prevent injuries. Mind the gap is also a relevant warning for organizations today.  The gap I am referring to is the one between your customers' expectations and your ability to meet those expectations given your current IT infrastructure and legacy systems. Today consumers have amazing power and real-time capabilities in their mobile devices.  They have incredible user experiences and powerful apps connected to real-time analytics, transactional services, turn-by-turn navigation, mobile payments and mobile commerce capabilities.  They have ins...
