In his book The Art of Action (2011), Stephen Bungay identifies three gaps that frustrate the ability of organizations to translate plans into actions that lead to desired outcomes. He calls them the knowledge, alignment and effects gaps. Here, I wish to reflect on Bungay’s perspective by reviewing these gaps in terms of the selection and implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. ERP software exerts a significant influence over the way an organization manages and monitors its performance. In large organizations, ERP software can touch hundreds, even thousands of people given that today’s ERP software may have a significant organizational footprint encompassing accounting, supply-chain, manufacturing, human resources (HR), customer relationship management (CRM), environmental, social and governance (ESG) and performance management activities. Mind the Gap - Enterprise Mobility and Digital Transformation

The phrase "Mind the Gap" was first introduced in 1969 in London as a warning for passengers to watch for the gap between the train door and the station platform.  The need to warn passengers is and was the result of some stations being located on curves and at varying heights relative to the tracks.  The warning is intended to prevent injuries. Mind the gap is also a relevant warning for organizations today.  The gap I am referring to is the one between your customers' expectations and your ability to meet those expectations given your current IT infrastructure and legacy systems. Today consumers have amazing power and real-time capabilities in their mobile devices.  They have incredible user experiences and powerful apps connected to real-time analytics, transactional services, turn-by-turn navigation, mobile payments and mobile commerce capabilities.  They have ins... The Improbability of Resource Planning

Imagine you run an eCommerce web site, and you know that on "Black Friday," that magical day after Thanksgiving when retailers drop prices and rev up sales, you would require substantially more servers to accommodate the anticipated spike in online traffic. If you were operating in a private cloud, you could go to IT and request a dozen more servers for the day, and IT could have them ready to roll on Black Friday. What's more, IT could arrange for the machines to be shut down on Saturday, so it wouldn't cost you a penny more than you need to spend. If you were in a traditional IT shop, you would be out of luck. Back in the day, if you knew you had a big resource push like a Black Friday traffic spike coming, there really wasn't much you could do about it. It's not as though you could ask IT to temporarily buy two dozen servers to accommodate your one-day rush. Toda... (more)

Three Things to Consider with ERP Software Solutions

With budgets shrinking and sales targets growing with every passing year, it is becoming more important than ever to implement quality ERP software solutions in order to cut costs and streamline your business practices. Whether you're a business owner, a technology officer, or a marketing executive, now is the time to look into ERP solutions if you haven't done so already. Make sure to keep these four aspects of the software in mind when making your decision: Not Traditional Software The first thing to keep in mind regarding ERP software solutions is that these programs are not truly software. Rather, seeing as it is 2014, most software is now really cloud-based. So any fears you may have of implementing software on a firm-wide basis in years past are probably misplaced. Nowadays, you likely don't need to install anything, nor do you need to have a staff of IT guys... (more)

GSX Solutions to Define the Next Generation of Performance Monitoring | @CloudExpo #Cloud

What does it mean for GSX Solutions to reach the 20 year milestone? Antoine Leboyer, CEO of GSX Solutions: It is certainly a key milestone in anyone's life. I can fully appreciate this when I think back to my younger days and then I look at my eldest daughter, who is 20 years old and in her second year at university. But for a company in the IT sector, a 20-year anniversary signifies that we have experienced and endured so many radical changes in the industry. We have witnessed the era in which mainframes were challenged by minis, which were then themselves challenged by PCs. Then came the age of software, then something called the Internet, and now another something called the cloud. Every time, we thought that nothing more could be invented, another massive change would take place. If we are still here and thriving after 20 years, it is a testament to our ability... (more)

Nerdio Paul F. Guerin, VP of Sales and Business Development: The ubiquitous availability of business grade internet, enterprise class colo facilities, and advancements in virtualization technology coupled with cloud IaaS from Amazon (AWS) and Microsoft (Azure) are changing the way way MSPs deliver services to the customers in a disruptive way.
